Competency Test in Waived Testing
CHC Waived Testing Requirements
The Joint Commission Waived Testing standards requires that two (2) methods be used to demonstrate operator competence. Employees must be checked-off (observation); where technique and accuracy are demonstrated by successful performance of a test on a given unknown sample. Employees only need to be checked-off on the tests they personally perform. Check with your Test Site Manager or Nurse Manager for tests you are authorized to perform.
Competency for waived testing must be assessed using at least two of the following methods per person, per test:
1. Periodic observation of routine work by the supervisor or qualified designee
2. Use of a written test specific to the test assessed (i.e. online tests)
Passing online test(s) does not automatically deem an employee competent, proficient, and/or in compliance with Joint Commission to perform Point of Care testing. A second method (see above) must be successfully performed and documented.
